How do I describe the substantial impact that Penny has and continues to make on my life? After I finished my first year of college, I started turning my business into a more serious career path. I started working for Penny and being mentored in the world of photography and all that comes with it, but it was so much more than that. She was not just coaching me on my business, but on how to make my life more fulfilling.
I have had Penny in my life since I was in high school, that was the start. She helped me navigate hardships in my life both professionally as I started diving into starting a full-time business and all the personal dilemmas I was facing. She stood by me as I went down different paths and struggled with myself, my confidence, and life-changing situations. She pushed me out of my comfort zone and has always been real, raw, and honest with me. I will never be able to thank her for how much she truly did even when she didn't realize it.
I was recently engaged and on break from school when I came back to work for Penny all those years ago. She helped launch the successful career I now have, she helped influence my now marriage for the better as she counseled me on the journey I am now on. During the big moments that have changed my life whether it be personal or professional, Penny has been there. Now as a new mom and starting in new directions with my company, she is the counsel that I turn to. She is the advice that pushes me, the comforts me, and that continues to influence my journey, she is the reminder that even in the struggles, in the darkness, that I will arise and conquer.
Penny is not just a mentor, she is not just a life long friend or a guiding hand... she is a safe haven.
Penny, is a truly self-made woman/business owner which has made her a master in the different domains a business must develop to launch and then become successful. Starting from the initial concept, growing that to a mission, and weaving that into color palettes, photos and words... she helped me with all of these things. Penny is insightful and appeals to people's needs and senses. Penny navigates social media as a means to advertise and build a brand to attract your perfect client. Penny does it all with a grace and insight that produces results.
Penny is truly invested in you and your goal. She asks questions to tease out what you are really saying in order to pinpoint your vision. Experience has strengthened Penny's ability to identify what will and will not work. She is direct in her explanation of what works best and what will not, thus saving you time and energy. Penny's insights, know how, and understanding of you, your goals and your future clients makes her a pillar you can lean on and depend on.
Over the past couple of years, I've been building my little business 'Sierra Wilson Photography' which has come to be like my third child (just as needy but rewarding in a different way). As my work got stronger and my style evolved, I was feeling a disconnect between my brand and my images. I knew I had to do something, I had to change something, but I wasn't quite sure what or how. I was stuck.
Last winter, I took a chance and hired a mentor. Hiring a mentor is not cheap, you are basically paying them to give you, their competition, all their hard-earned secrets. I chose Penny of Becoming Images & her coaching business, Rooted & Risen.
I had admired her work from afar for over a decade and her brand spoke to me: adventurous, romantic, and feminine; all things that I aspire to be personally and artistically. For months I waited nervously for my mentorship to begin. Would it be worth it? The answer: Yes. After a lot of self-reflection and hard work, she helped me realize who I am, who I want to be, what I want my business to look like and feel like, what I want my images to look like, and what I need to do to get there. I will forever be grateful to her. She took me from just another a mom with a camera, to a confident professional photographer and business owner.
Thank you, Penny! I am forever grateful for the gift of mentorship that you have given me. You are such a true representation of the very brand you have created in Becoming Images and the work you are bringing to life with Rooted & Risen! I’m so very honored to have gotten to walk beside you during this part of your journey and I will be cheering your success as you bring your vision into being! Love ya, Girl!
There are moments in life as women when we realize we can't do it all - by ourselves. It is hard to let go because for so long we've figured out how to manage, but in order to grow and change sometimes you just have to let others in to give you a fresh perspective and speak truth into your dreams, your desires and your heart.
This was me two years ago when I began to feel the stirrings of beginning a small business but wasn't sure if it feasible or even if I had what it took to not only start a business but to see it flourish and be successful. I knew I needed some perspective and so I reached out to my friend, Penny McGoey. From the start, I knew Penny would be the one to help me not only plan but to dream big and help me plot a course to launch my business in a way that was in keeping with my values and goals. At times a coach, at times a mentor, sometimes the limit setter but always my encourager-in-chief, she made sure I had the support and tools I needed to get my business off the ground with very few bumps or bruises.
Now one of my dearest friends, I still rely on Penny for sound business advice and encouragement because two years later, I find that being a small business owner can be a lonely road to travel. To this day she remains a steady, calm voice that reminds me I can do, I have done it and I will continue to do it well. She gave roots when I needed them most and continues to help me rise a little more everyday.
